Privacy Policy for Terrible Focus

Last updated: August 2026

Welcome to Terrible Focus. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS application (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using Terrible Focus, you agree to the practices described herein.

1. Information We Collect and Store

1.1 Local Game Data (Stored on Your Device Only)

Terrible Focus stores all of your game progress locally on your device, including:

  • Completed tasks and focus sessions
  • Your clearing's visual state (built objects, world progression)
  • Focus session history and durations
  • Pack ownership and unlocks
  • App settings and preferences

This data is stored entirely on your device. We do not have access to it, and it is never transmitted to our servers.

1.2 Anonymous Usage Analytics

We may collect anonymous, non-personally identifiable information about how you use the App to help us improve the experience. This data is fully anonymized and aggregated, and may include:

  • Which features are used (e.g., which tasks are completed, session durations)
  • Technical information (e.g., device model, iOS version, app version)
  • Performance metrics (e.g., app crashes, loading times)

This analytics data does NOT include:

  • Your name, email address, or any contact information
  • Device identifiers that could be linked to you personally
  • Your specific game progress or save data
  • Location data

For this analytics we use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service based in the European Union. TelemetryDeck is designed for anonymity: any device identifier is cryptographically hashed (with additional server-side salting) before it is stored, so signals cannot be traced back to a specific device or person. TelemetryDeck does not track you across apps or websites, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not build user profiles.

Even with analytics enabled, we never collect any information that could identify you as an individual. For more detail, see TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.

1.3 iCloud Sync (Optional, Apple's Service)

If you enable iCloud on your device, your game progress may be automatically synced across your Apple devices using Apple's iCloud service. This sync is handled entirely by Apple, not by us. We do not have access to your iCloud data. For information about how Apple handles iCloud data, please see Apple's Privacy Policy.

1.4 Push Notifications (Optional)

If you allow notifications, the App uses local notifications to send you reminders (such as daily check-ins or focus completion celebrations). These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by iOS — they are not sent from our servers, and we do not use remote push notifications, collect device tokens, or receive any information when a notification is delivered. You can disable notifications at any time in your device Settings or within the App.

1.5 In-App Purchases

If you purchase content packs within the App, these transactions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information. Apple provides us only with a receipt confirming your purchase, which we use to unlock the purchased content in the App. For information about how Apple handles purchase data, please see Apple's Privacy Policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1 Anonymous Analytics

If analytics are enabled, we use the anonymized data to:

  • Understand which features are most valuable to users
  • Identify and fix bugs and performance issues
  • Make informed decisions about future content and improvements
  • Ensure the App works well across different devices and iOS versions

This data is never used for advertising, sold to third parties, or linked to your identity in any way.

2.2 Your Game Data

Your personal game data (progress, completed tasks, etc.) stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. We cannot see your focus sessions, your clearing's state, or any aspect of your personal gameplay.

2.3 Legal Basis and Data Retention (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis for processing anonymous usage analytics is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in understanding how the App is used so that we can maintain and improve it. Because this data is anonymized and cannot be linked to you, it does not identify you as an individual; we retain it only in aggregated form for as long as it remains useful for these purposes. Your game data is stored locally on your device (and, if you enable it, in your own iCloud account) and is kept until you delete it or remove the App — we never receive or store it.

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

3.1 No Sale of Data

We do not sell, rent, or share any of your information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

3.2 Service Providers

We use TelemetryDeck (an EU-based, privacy-first analytics provider) to process the anonymous, aggregated usage data described in Section 1.2. TelemetryDeck is bound by its own privacy policy and does not have access to any personally identifiable information.

3.3 Legal Compliance

We may disclose information if required by law (e.g., in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or government request), to protect our rights, or to comply with an investigation relating to suspected illegal activity.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Apple Services

The App relies on Apple's services for core functionality:

  • iCloud (optional sync across your devices)
  • Push Notifications (optional reminders)
  • In-App Purchases (purchasing content packs)

These services are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

4.2 External Links

The App may contain links to our website, support pages, or social media. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any site you visit.

4.3 International Data Transfers

Our analytics provider, TelemetryDeck, stores data within the European Union. Apple's services (iCloud, the App Store, and related features) may process data in the United States or other countries; those transfers are governed by Apple's own safeguards and privacy policy. We ourselves do not transfer any personal data internationally, because we do not collect data that identifies you.

5. Data Security

All of your game data is stored locally on your device using iOS's secure storage APIs. If you use iCloud sync, your data is encrypted and protected by Apple's security measures. Any anonymous analytics data we collect is transmitted securely and stored in an encrypted format.

6. Children's Privacy

Terrible Focus is designed to be appropriate for users of all ages. The App does not require an account, and the only information we process — anonymous, non-personally identifiable usage analytics — cannot be used to identify or contact anyone, including children.

Under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we do not rely on consent to process children's personal data; because we collect no personally identifiable information, no parental consent is required. (In Austria, where we are established, the age of digital consent is 14.) If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@terriblefocus.com and we will address it.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Anonymous Analytics

The usage analytics we collect are fully anonymized and cannot be linked to you as an individual (see Section 1.2). Because this data contains no personal identifiers, it is not tied to your device or identity. If you would prefer that we not collect any usage analytics at all, you can delete the App at any time.

7.2 Your Game Data is Yours

All of your game data belongs to you and is stored on your device. You can:

  • Delete the App at any time to remove all local data
  • Disable iCloud sync in your device Settings
  • Turn off push notifications in the App settings or your device Settings
  • Request a refund for in-app purchases through Apple (subject to Apple's refund policy)

7.3 Your Rights Under the GDPR (EEA/UK)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, as well as the right to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — in Austria, this is the Datenschutzbehörde (dsb.gv.at). In practice, because the App does not collect data that identifies you, we are usually unable to link any data to a specific person in order to act on such a request. Any data stored on your device or in your own iCloud account remains under your control, and you can delete it at any time.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legal requirements, or our practices. When we post changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through an in-app notification.
